News has been received in t'liristchnrcn that. Mr Albert Kaye, of Ohristchurch, is wry seriously ill in a private hospital in Sydney. Accompanied by Mrs Kaye, Mr Kaye left for Sydney recently, for reasons of health, and he has been there for only about a fortnight. At the .dose of the Christchurch Amateur Operatic Company's production of "The Geisha" on Saturday night, Mr Frank .McDonald, on behalf of the performers, presented Mr Tom Pollard (who had given his services as producer voluntarily with a travelling bag. Mr A. V. Enter, who recently resigned from the Justice Department after 14 years' service, has been admitted a solicitor of the Supreme Court by Mr Justice Cooper. He has now joined Mr W. M. Constable D. Treney, of Leeston, has retired on superannuation from the Police Force, mid has been granted three months' leave on full pay. Constable Treacy, who has a record of -11 years' service, joined the Armed Constabulary in 1879, and the police in 1891. He has been stationed at different periods at Dunediu, Port Chalmers, Arrowtown, Clinton ami Leeston. His retirement will be spent in the North Island, where he has acquired some sheep country. Constable Moriarty, of Southbridge, will assume charge of the Leeston police district until a successor is appointed.
