DUNEDIN, September 3. Arrived—Breeze (3.25 a.m.), from Wellington: Monowai (4.15 p.m.). from Lyttelton; Shahristan (3.50 p.m.), from Lyttelton. NOTES. The weather on the whole during the past week was favourable for the handling of all kinds of cargo, and work was carried on practically without interruption. Since their arrival on Wednesday and Thursday, respectively, the Leitrim and Port Curtis provided employment for a large percentage of the waterside labour. These vessels, which are due to sail on Mondav and to-morrow respectively will have their places filled by the Waimana and Matatua, both of which have big cargoes to discharge. Then, the Essex. . due to-morrow from Napier, will load a --_ considerable quantity of frozen meat and general cargo for New York. The Koromiko has kept a number of hands engaged since August 19, but she will be readv for dispatch for Auckland to-night.- However, the Kauri, which arrived to-dav from Newcastle, will fill her place nicel'v, this vessel having 5000 tons of cargo to discharge. As an indication of the amount of work performed during the present mid previous week, the wages bill of two of the shipPinjK companies alone amounted to about £3500 for eacli week. The cargo handled on Thursday alone at seven of the Union *j°-» vessels, including the hunkering of i.L Shahristan and Corinna, amounted to 5620 tons. UNION STEAM SHIP CO. The Kini was due at Lyttelton to-dav. hut being delayed at Westport on account of a shortage of firemen, she is not expected to reach her destination until Monday The, Koromiko is to leave here to-night fully laden with general cargo and produce for Auckland, where, after discharge, she will be docked for cleaning and painting before leaving for Newcastle to load again for Lyttelton. The Kauri reached Lyttelton this morning from Newcastle, via Sydney, with 5000 tons of cargo comprising 2100 tons general merchandise. 220 tons coal, 303,000 feet of. timber, 24 motor-cars, and live lifts, each weighing 35 cwt. The Flora was to have left Wellington yesterday for Timaru direct. She is expected at Lyttelton on Tuesday, to load for Kelson and New Plymouth, whence she will proceed to Wellington where she will be laid up for survey. The Paloona arrived at Lyttelton this morning from Dunedin, and is to sail night for Wellington, which port she »es on Tuesday for Melbourne. The T# Anau is due here to-morrow from Napier with a small quantity of cargo for
discharge. She is to sail on Monday for Port Chalmers whore she will he surveyed. The Navua's departure from Wellington for Napier, Gisborne, Tokomaru Bay and Auckland was postponed until to-day. The Shahristan, recently purchased by the Union Steam Ship Co., is to he renamed Kawatiri. The Cosmos, another steamer lately acquired by the Union Co., Is to have her name changed to the Karaka. The vessel will he due at Melbourne early next month from West of England ports. She will continue discharge at Sydney, and linish at Newcastle. KINSEY AND CO. The C. and D. liner Port Curtis is to love here early to-morrow for Dunedin to continue discharge of New York cargo, and in due course will land the remainder at Australia. She will load refrigerated and f;eneral cargo early in October in New Zcaand for New York or Boston. The Leitrim is at present set down for sailing on Monday for Dunedin with the balance of her cargo from West of Eng- | land ports. From Dunedin she will go to J Newcastle for blinkers, and will return to New Zealand about the end of the month to load at Waltara, Wanganui, Lytteltcn and Wellington, for New York. The Weslrallo is to leave Lyttelton this afternoon for Melbourne, via Dunedin and Bluff, with passengers and cargo. The Ulimaroa. from Sydney, is due at Wellington on Monday. The Wakatu, from Wellington, via Kaikoura, is duo back at Lyttelton on Tuesday to Joad for the north again. WESTPORT COAL CO. The Canopus, with a full load of eon! from Westport, is due at Lyttelton on Monday. A. RHIND AND CO. The Wootton, with a cargo of timber from Greynioutli. arrived at Lyttelton this morning, and is to leave for Wellington on Monday evening. The Lily has been timed to sail this evening. fully laden with general cargo, for Wellington. Tlie auxiliary schooner Hnia is to leave Auckland on Monday with a transhipment of explosives for Dunedin. HARBOUR BOARD. The tug Lyttelton is 1 o he docked on Monday for her annual overhaul, and tiie dredge Te Wliaka will he used as a tug in Hie meantime. PERSONAL. Captain C. H. Larsen has been appointed pilot at Foxton in place of Captain Miller, who lias resigned. • OVERSEAS VESSELS. The Shaw, Savill, and Albion Co.'s steamer Waimana arrived back at Lyttelton this morning from Dunedin to discharge the balance of her London cargo, amounting to some 4700 tons. From here she will sail for Wellington about September 10 to hunker, and then go to Tokomaru Bay, Gisborne, and Wellington, to load for England, and will sail finally from Wellington about September 30. The Suffolk, to the agency of the New Zealand Shipping Co., was due at Wellington this morning to continue the discharge of her cargo from Montreal. She will subsequently proceed to Lyttelton, Melbourne, and Sydney. The liner Otira left Sydney (Nova Scotia) on August 20 for Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, Melbourne, and Svdnev. The vessel is from Montreal, and will be due at Auckland on September 25, and at Wellington on October 2. ■ Th( i Matatua, according to latest advice, ■s not due at Lyttelton until Tuesday. She will discharge and load and will sail from this port for Dunedin, Bluff, Tlmaru, Wellington and Auckland. The New Zealand Shipping Co. have been advised by cable that the liner Kaikoura left Panama on August 27 en route from Montreal to Auckland, Wellington, Dunedin and Australia. She should reach Auckland about September 23. The Tahiti’s departure from Auckland for Vancouver, via Pacific ports, has been postponed until September 23. The Ofarama is to leave Waitara to-mor-row for Wellington to complete loading for Horae. The Abadesa is due at Wanganui from Sydney to-day to load meat for Home. She is expected at Wellington on September 14. The British-India steamer Canara ioft Calcutta on August 29 for New Zealand ports, via Bangoon, Penang, Singapore, Samarang, and Newcastle. The Woodarra is to leave London on September 10 cargo-laden for Lyttelton, Port Chalmers and Bluff.
