SUBSTANTIAL DONATION.
TO FIGHT THE FAMINE FUND. LADY'S CHEQUE FOR £7OO. The Fight the Famine Fund is richer to-day by £7OO donated by a lady who wishes to remain anonymous. Yesterday afternoon the Rev. J. J. North received a telephone call from a lady who inquired about the Fight the Famine Fund. She wanted to be sure that the European need was a -real one, and that the method of distribution was good. The lady, who would not furnish her name, concluded her inquiries by stating that she had a considerable cheque which she would send through the post, and the conversation terminated with Mr North's thanks. The denouement came this morning when Mr North received a cheque for £7OO by mail. The cheque is an open one, it was issued by the Post Ollice Savings Bank, and was signed by the Controller there. Not a Hue of the lady's writing was appended. Very complete precautions have thus been taken to shroud the generous donor's identity under the cloak of anonymity.
