WEST COAST NEEDS.
A CANTERBURY MISSION. [From Our Own Reporter.! HOKITIKA, August 17. Organised by the Canterbury Progress League, a party of business men, representing that body and the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce and the Canterbury Industrial Association, started a tour of the West Coast to-dav. The party includes Messrs W. K. McAlpine, H. Holland, G. H. Judd, P. R. Climie, H. J. Marriner, F. E. Jones, and G. White. The object of the tour is to inquire into the needs of the West Coast, in order that the two provinces may work together for their own development. Several conferences will be held in various centres, and visits will be made to the chief mining, dairying and timber districts. The trip will extend over 12 days. The visit of the Canterbury party is hailed with considerable satisfaction in Westland, ns making for closer co-operation between the two provinces, in an attempt to secure the advancement of various projects in which both are interested. The arrived at Arthur's Pass in excellent weather. Half of it went on to Otira by coach, while the other half went through the Arthur's Pass Tunnel, the greater part of that journey being made on electric trollies. At Otira, the party was met by Mr 1). J. Evans, secretary to the Westland branch of the Progress League. Subsequently the journey I to Hokitika was continued in motorcars.
