For some time the crew of the Bluff Harbour Board's dredge Murihiku have keen dissatisfied about the extra Sunday duty of keeping watch on the waterfront, which they have been expected to do jn turn without, it is understood, receiving extra remuneration. The grievance was to have been considered at a meeting of the board last Friday, but was deferred, and the men refused to continue the Sunday watch. To-day the man whose turn it was to go on watch yesterday was informed on reporting for duty that he was suspended, whereupon the remainder of the crew abandonee) work in sympathy with him. It is understood that the men will be paid off, UNION S.S. COMPANY. The Kamona, with a full load of timber from Greymouth, arrived here this morning. The Monowai arrived hack at T.yltelton this morning from Dunedin, and is'due to sail to-night for Auckland, via Wellington, and the usual East Coast ports. The intercolonial steamer Moeraki should be here on Thursday from Wellington, with cargo and passengers, and will leave the same evening lor llobart, via Wellington and Sydney. The Mapourika is due here to-morrow ' morning from Wellington, and will be dispatched, probably on Fridav, lor New Plymouth. The Sharistan, under Union Company charter, should arrive at l.vttelton about Saturday from Son Francisco, laden with general cargo. The Wakatu left here last night Willi a full load of mixed merchandise for Kaikoura and Wellington, and is due back at l/ittelton on Friday. The Baden-Powell is to leave Wellington to-day for I.yttelton. and will sail on Thursday for the north port, laden with eineral commodities. A. RHIND AND CO. The Wootton is due nt Ly ft el ton tomorrow, and is timed to sail on Thursday en the return trip to Wellington, with a load of general products. The auxiliary schooner Lily, which left ■Wellington late on Wednesday night for Lytteltou, arrived back in Wellington at €.lO p.m. on Sunday, after a four days' battle with the strong southerly gale. All went well until the Lily was about 10 miles
oil Kaikoura. Here she met the full force of the southerly, and the little vessel began to drift slowly but surely to the north-east. In 24 hours the Lily drifted 72 miles, being practically helpless against the wind and sea, and on Saturday night she was off Castlepoint. The schooner's difficulties were doubled on account of the auxiliary engines refusing to work, but she managed to make port under her own sail. Yesterday morning, as the engines were still out of order, the tug Pelican went off to her assistance. The Lily received no damage as a result of her experience, and the auxiliary engines are again in working order. She will leave port when the weather moderates. CANTERBURY S.S. COMPANY. The Kara has been timed to reach Lyltelton on Thursday, and will leave the following day for Wellington with general cargo and produce. The Storm is due back at I.yttelton tomorrow to load for Wangamii, and will sail for that port on Thursday. BLACKBALL COAL COMPANY. The Xgakuta, from Portland, with a cargo of cement, is due at Wellington to-day. The Ngahere is expected here to-morrow from Greymoutli, via Wellington, with bunker coal for the Somerset. F. E. SUTTON AND CO. The John, after finishing discharge of southern cargo at Wangamii, is to sail for Tarakohe to load cement for Lyttelton. The Orepuki, now discharging timber at Lyttelton, is to leave on Thursday for (jreymouth, with general cargo. NEW ZEALAND GOVERNMENT. The Tutanekai arrived here this morning from Wellington to take in cargo and embark passengers for the Chatham Islands. As the vessel has about 30 tons of general cargo to load, besides replenishing her bunkers, she will not get away for the Chathams until to-morrow afternoon. She has already a few passengers on board from Wellington, anß will embark a number at Lyttelton. STEVENSON. STEWART AND CO. The Cygnet finished the discharge of her cargo about 3 p.m. yesterday, and was afterwards placed on the slip to undergo annual overhaul and repairs to damage sustained in her recent mishap. On exam- : ination an oblong hole, about an inch and a-half in length and an inch in breadth, was discovered in one of her plates beneath 'the boiler on the port side, and near the bottom of the keel. PERSONAL. Captain Fletcher, of the Kakapo, has come ashore, and bis place has been taken byCaptain Knowlcs. Mr W. B. Hoare has signed on the Rosa--1 mend as third engineer in place of Mr K. McDonald, who is ashore on leave. Mr D. MeMurran has joined the Ngahere as chief engineer, in place of Mr Murray, who has gone ashore. OVERSEAS VESSELS. The Tahiti, from Auckland, via Honolulu, is due at Vancouver to-day. According to a cable message received by Levin and Co., at Wellington, the master of the American steamer West Mahvvah (Captain A. M. Sewall) took seriously ill shortly after the vessel left Wellington for Adelaide. In consequence the West Mahwah has put into Melbourne instead of proceeding to Adelaide. The Waitemata is loading at San Francisco for New Zealand and Australian ports. C. AND D. LINERS. The Port' Curtis is not expected to reach Wellington from Auckland and Napier until Friday. Later she will visit Lyttelton, Dunedin, and Australian ports. The Port Glasgow is to leave Glasgow, or Liverpool, on Saturday for New Zealand ports. The Port Kembla has been fixed to sail from. London on August 25 for Australian and New Zealand ports, via Cape Town. The Port Victor is to leave Glasgow, or by bad weather at Napier, will not arrive at Wellington until Friday to complete loading. She has been set down for sailing on August 25 for London, via Panama. The Hororata is to leave Wellington on Thursday for London, via Panama. N.Z. SHIPPING COMPANY'S LINE. The Otaki, Homeward bound, left Colon on August 10 for Antwerp. The Suffolk, from Montreal, left Panama on August 9. The Hororata is expected to leave Wellington to-day for New York. The Bimutaka is expected to leave Wellington to-day for Auckland, thence to Whangarei, returning to Auckland, probably for flual dispatch about September The Otarama is about to leave Newcastle for New Plymouth, Waitaro, and Wellington, leaving there finally early next month for London, via Panama.
