A motor-lorry, loaded with meat, collided with a tramcar in Moorhouse Avenue about 9.30 this morning. The two vehicles, which were going in nearly the same direction, met at an angle. The tramcar was struck near the middle of one side, the stop and some of the woodwork above being damaged, while carcases of meat protruded into the interior. The lorry had a wheel broken. Some time ago a Roll of Honour Guild was formed by the good folk of Brockenhurst, Hants., for the purpose of keeping in order the graves of the New Zealand soldiers buried in the churchyard there. Sir Thomas Mackenzie accepted the presidency of the guild, of which the vicar of Brockenhurst, Rev. C. Hope Gill, M.A., is warden. In a letter to Colonel P. C. Fenwick, N.Z.M.C., Mrs C. AT. Salwey, who acts as lady gardener, states that the guild never has to ask for funds or service, both of which are freely given. “Tour linen, ’’ she adds, “have left behind them such a good name—they earned love, respect, and a kindly remembrance from all who came to know them during their sojourn among ua. It has occurred to me that if guilds could be formed in other centres where hospitals were organised, this might save many cemeteries from neglect, and the Governments of other countries an immense amount of labour, organisation and outlay. I am intending to print a news leaflet, in which to set out this scheme. The work of the members of the guild is varied and useful, and is an expression of gratitude, admiration, and affection for the glorious dead who have given their lives for us all.’*
