MR HOWARD AND THE TRUTH.
To the Editor of THE SUN. Sir, —Your gentle “Moonlighter,” who fires from an anonymous hedge and charges me with untruthfulness, ought, at least, to be careful that he states the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. In regard to the statement upon which your correspondent, “P.lain Speaker,” bases his article, and bases the inference that I told an untruth, and which he says recently appeared in the “Lyttelton Times,” may I be permitted to say in my own defence that (1) I never made such a statement as your writer alleges; (2) that the “Lyttelton Times” never said that X did make such a statement?—l am, etc., E.
