Company's new steamers Naldera and Narkunda are Hearing completion, and it is hoped to dispatch the vessels to Australia about April 9. NOTES. The New Zealand Shipping Company's liner Ruapehu (Messrs Kinsey and Co., inward agentsi, from Glasgow and Plymouth, I •via Auckland and Wellington, arrived here I this morning with 91)0 tons of Home cargo. She left Plymouth on December 1 and reached Auckland on January 29. From here she will go to Dunedin to complete discharge of her freight. Her loading ports are Dunedin, Lyttelton, and Wellington, the New Zealand Shipping Company being her outward agents. March 2 is the date specified at present for her departure from Wellington for Southampton and Loudon. The Kurow is expected to complete discharge of her Newcastle cargo of steel rails and coal about Wednesday next. Her destination from Lyttelton has not yet been decided, but she will probably go to Ocean bland to load phosphates. The Kowhai, with a full load of timber from Greymouth, arrived here this morning. The Kamo, which discharged a cargo of coal at this port, is to be dispatched tomorrow for Greymouth to load coal and timber for a return trip. The Te Anau arrived here yesterday morning from Napier, and after landing sheep at the cattle jetty in the morning, transferred, in the afternoon, to the Gladstone pier to discharge 330 tons of general cargo. She will sail this evening for Dunedin, where she will commence taking in cargo for Napier and Gisborne. After lifting further consignments- at Oamaru and Timaru she will finish her loading at Lyttelton. The Monowai, from Dunedin, is due here in the morning to complete her loading for Wellington, Hast Coast ports, and Auckland, anil will sail the same evening. The Kini was to leave Wellington yesterday for Westport to load coal for southern ports. The Storm, from northern ports, is expected at Lyttelton on Monday to load for Dunedin anil Timaru. The Rosamond arrived a! Wellington yesterday from Grevmoutii with 2(10 tons of general cargo and 170,000 ft of timber. On completion of discharge she will proceed to Picton to load chair for Onehunga. The Houto left here yesterday for Dargaville laden with general cargo. The Orepuki sailed from this port last night for Greymouth, where she will again load timber for Lyttelton. The Karu is to leave Wangnnui to-day with a load of cheese for Wellington. She is expected at Lyttelton on Sunday, and will sail on Tuesday with cargo lor Wellington. The Wakatu, from Wellington, via Kaikoura, arrived at this port last night with a load of general merchandise. It is hoped tCvhave her ready lor sailing on the return trip this evening. The John, from Tarakohe, via Wellington, Is expected at Lyttelton to-morrow. The Ngatoro, with cement from WhaBgarei, should be at Wellington to-morrow. The Australian steamer Malaita, with a cargo of phosphates, is now due at Auckland. After discharge she will go to Hokianga to load timber for Adelaide, thence to Newcastle to ship coal for Ocean Island, where she will take in another cargo of phosphates for New Zealand. f

The Baden-Powell, with a load of coke from Wellington, arrived here early this morning. The New Plymouth Harbour Board's annual report states that the number of vessels arriving at the port during last year was approximately the same as for the past two years. The net tonnage, however, shows a large increase, due to the larger class of vessels entering the port and to the fact that seven ocean liners have berthed at the wharf during the year. Captain Walter Scott, who has been in the service of the Union Steam Ship Company for the past 18 years, and who recently secured the appointment as superintendent stevedore at Lyttelton for the Shaw, Savill, and Albion Company, entered upon his new duties yesterday. OVERSEAS VESSELS. The Union Company's steamer Waitomo, from Calcutta, Singapore, and Samarang, via Bunburj'i is due at Duncdin on February 18. The remainder of her cargo will be discharged at Lyttelton, Wellington, and Auckland. The Whakatane, now en route from Port Chalmers for Melbourne and Sydney to complete discharge, will in due course return to New Zealand to load for Home. The F. and S. liner Kent, which left Panama on January 28 in continuation of her voyage from England to New Zealand, will he due at Auckland on February 27. The U.S. and A. Line chartered steamer Nokatay left New York on February 5 for Auckland. Wellington, and Australian ports. The Hebburn, recently sold by HuddartParker, Ltd., has been purchased by Mr James McKelvie, of London, and renamed Graziclla. The Federal-Shire steamer Sussex, from New York, via Auckland, is due at Wellington on Monday next. She had 8000 tons of cargo for discharge at Auckland., Wellington, Melbourne, and Sydney. The White Star liner Megantic will come to Wellington on her way from Sydney to Panama, West Indies, and New York. Bunker supplies and passengers will be taken on board at Wellington, where she will be due early in March. The Paparoa is to sail from London in March for New Zealand ports laden with general cargo. The Cathlamet, a steamer of 5809 tons, is at present loading at New York for Lyttelton, Duncdin, Hobart, Melbourne, Adelaide, and Frcmantle. The City of Agra was timed to sail from New York for Auckland and Wellington on February G. What is claimed to be the world's greatest motor ship, the Africa, was launched at Copenhagen on December 11 last by Messrs Burmcister and Wain. She has been constructed to the order of the East Asiatic Company, and is of 14,000 tons. Built to Lloyd's highest class, her length is 445 ft and breadth 00ft. She is supplied with two Diesel motors of 2250 i.h.p. each.
