ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
A GIRL MISSING. Hannah Jensen, a single woman, 2(1 years of age, left her home about 1(1 o’eloek on Wednesday evening, and u® traces of her have since been discovered. She- was in a very delicate statu of health, and great anxiety is felt by her relatives. Miss Jensen has dark hair, and is very slim. The police have searched the Cashmere Hills and dragged the Heathcote River without , result. ‘ ■ w* Word has been received from the Sydenham Police Station that the missing girl was yesterday seen in the vicinity of the Sanatorium at Cashmere Hills. The police have proceeded to the Hills to institute a search. The Chief Commissioner of Boy Scouts for New Zealand (Lieut.-Colonel D. ; Cossgrove, V.D.) requests as many of the Boy Scouts as can get away to search for the missing girl this evening, to proceed to Cashmere Hills. When last seen yesterday afternoon, the girl was wearing an overcoat over her night attire, no hat, and a pair of new boots,. DEATH FROM CANCER.
; An inquest was held at 9.30 this 'morning, before Mr S. E. McCarthy, S.M., concerning the death .of John Henry Herd, aged 58 years, a married man, who died at the house if Mr J. W. Millns, 3,39 Hereford Street, Linwood, on Tuesday last. Evidence was tendered that deceased had boen suffering frorii incurable cancer, and a verdict wa» returned that death had resulted from heart failure, induced by cancer of the bowels. FOUND DEAD. Charles Parlson, known, in the Darfield district as "Charlie, the Swede," was found dead on the Springfield Road this morning. An inquest is to be held this evening at the Darfield Poliee Station. FOUND DROWNED. The body of James Smith, who was. assistant-managor of the Occidental Hotel, and who has been missing from his home in Peterborough Street since 4 p.m. on Wednesday, was found in the Avon River, near Wainoni, this moraine by Constables R, C. Brien and J. McLeod. Yesterday morning Smith's bicycle was found lying on the river bank near Wainoni. Recently Mr Smith suffered from an attack of influenza, and since then has been subject to fainting fits, due to a weak heart. An iuquest will be held.
BODIES RECOVERED. Renter'* Telegrams. WANGANUI, February 12. The bodies of Richard Neal and Enid Bayly, who wore drowned in the river yesterday, wore recovered to-day.
