GENERAL COMMITTEE.
The General Committee of the Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Association met yesterday afternoon at the association's rooms in Manchester Street. Mr T. I). Boag occupied the chair.
There were present: "Messrs R. E. Alexander. .T. Anderson. I. Andrew. .1. 0. Coop, W. B. Cunningham, John Deans, dames Deans. J]. E. Fineham, J. C. C. Gobble. W. Havward, .). G. Herdman, F. Hubbard, D. McMillan, K. ,1. S. Murehison, R. M. P. Morten, 11. B. Peryman, D. W. Westenra and Dr E. G. Levinge. A letter.was received from Dr L. 11. ;Gribben, resigning from the committee of the association.—The resignation was j accepted with regret. The director of the Technical (School |wrote acknowledging a donation of £2(l from the association. j The secretary of the Canterbury Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to | Animals wrote expressing the society's approval of the decision of the association to appoint an officer to see that I cows would be milked whilst under the jcare of the association at future shows. I The committee appointed at the I pre'ions meeting of the general j committee to consider the question of improving the Show Grounds presented its report. For the competitive design for improvements to the Show i Grounds, the committee recommended !that the prize of £25 be awarded to Mrs D. \Y. Westenra. i The question of improvements the 'show Grounds had been discussed, and ]fhe committee decided to recommend that [the first works to be taken in hand be jthe erection of new sheep pens and a selling ring. The site approved by the j committee was on the north-west end of jthe Show Grounds, starting about one chain from the implements gate, and running towards the railway. The pens to be Oft by Oft, with a 10ft right-of-way between each row, each row of pens to jbe covered with a circular roof, the roof jlo overlap 2ft on each row. The number of pens to be erected to be 1008, in nine double rows. I The committee also recommended that ,the general committee tare inio consideration the holding of a show of live stock (luring the visit of the Prince of Wales. ! The recommendations of the special j committee were adopted. Regarding the I proposal that a show of live stock be | held during the visit of the Prince, it i was derided that the Minister of Jn- ' tenia] Affairs be first approached to (ascertain if it would be possible for the Prince to attend the show. On a reply j being received, a special meeting of the |general committee would be called. j The chairman announced that noniiInations for positions on the general .committee for the ensuing year would close on Saturday, March 13. 1 Mr I>. W. Westenra stated that Mrs (Westenra would offer a prize of £lO at ;three consecutive shows for a light horse class. The offer was accepted, and the [secretary instructed to write thanking 'Mrs Westenra for her offer.
Mr John Deans gave notice of motion that, should retired vice presidents, who at j.resent lioli! seats on the committee', miss attendance at three consecutive meetings of the association, they lose their seats on the committee.
