At the Lyttelton Magistrate's Court this morning, before Mr F. G. Norton, J .P., Joseph Delaney was charged with the theft, on July 16, of a dispatch bag, valued at £2, the property of the New Zealand Refrigerating Company. On the application of Senior-Sergeant Jackson, accused was remanded to December 6.

The proceedings in a divorce ease heard-at the Supreme Court yesterday were held up for 25 minutes, owing to the non-appearance of the chief witness for the "petitioner. Aftet an exhaustive but fruitless search in the precincts of the court by court officials and lawyers' clerks his Honour Mr Justice Herdinan adjourned the case for 10 minutes to give the witness a chance of putting in an appearance. Within that time, the witness had appeared with the excuse of having missed a car. It.was definitely stated by a person at Mr W. R. Devereux's meeting* at Tompleton on Thursday evening that the Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. W. F. Massey) was one of the largest'shareholders in the Northern Roller .Milling Company, Ltd., Auckland. The interjector was very emphatic in his assertion of the matter, and accordingly the Hon. R. Moore, M.L.C., telegraphed to the Prime Minister at Queenstown yesterday. He received a reply to-day which said that the statement was an absolute fabrication, and that Mr Massey had never owned a share in any flour mill in his life.
