* • • May Allison is delightfully attractive in her new Metro feature, "Castles in the Air," which will be shown at Crystal Palace next week. '' Castles in the Air" is the screen title given the original story by Kate Jordan which was published under the name of '' Orchestra D2." The manner in which the Metro version has been staged is a credit to George D. Baker, who also wrote the scenario. Prominent in the cast of principals are Ben Wilson, star of '' The Voice on the Wire" serial; Walter I. Percival, Clarence Burton, Irene Rich, "Mother" Anderson, Viola Hale and Ruth Maurice. "Castles in the Air" is a romance- of a pretty girl-usher. Patty Arbuckle will also be seen in his very latest Paramount comedy, "A Desert Hero."

Irene Castle has completed.her second Artcraft-Paramount feature, "Should a Wife Forgive," taken from the novel by Sophie Kerr,. "The See-Saw." Charles Margue both adapted it and directed the production. Huntly Gordon, Claire Adams, George Mageroni, Helen Green, Warburton Gamble, Flemming Ward and Curtis Jennings support Miss Castle in this picture.

"The Amazing Lovers" is the title of the first production of the Robert W. Chambers series of stories which B. A. Rolfe is picturising for the A. H. Fischer Features, Inc. The production is based on the Chambers story, "The Shining Band," with adaptations for the screen by Charles A. Logue. One of the interesting features of the new programme at the Queen's is the commencement of the new Pathe serial,

daughter and a band of fanatics. Grace Darling, Ramsaye Wallace, Sally Crute, Marc McDermott, E. J. Ratcliffe, G. Seffertitz, John Goldsworthy, Robert Paton Gibbs and John L. Shine are the principal players of the production.

Alice Joyce has a dual role in her new Vitagraph feature, "The Vengeance of Durand," a stirring and unusual play by Rex Beach, which gives her one of the strongest parts in her career. The cast includes S. V. Seyfferty, Percy Marmout, William Bechtel, Eugene Strong and Mark Smith.

The second of the English films to be released in New Zealand since the War is a Hcpworth production, "The Hanging Judge," to be shown at the Grand next week. Chrissie White and Henry Edwards, last appearing in the leading roles of "Broken Threads," are starred in this film. The story is the screen adaptation of the book and play by Tom Gallon. The cast includes many wellknown English performers. Besides the two leading artists, Hamilton Stewart, as the judge, gives a remarkable performance. He is not unknown to New Zealanders, having appeared with the J. C. Williamson Dramatic Company in "Sherlock Holmes" and other productions. Miss Gwynne Herbert, John McAndrews and others well known in the English theatrical world are also prominent in the film.

Nazimova docs some forceful acting in the two characters of mother and daughter in "Out of the Fog," a screen version of the sensational stage success, '.' 'Ception Shoals, "by Austin Adams. " 'Ception Shoals" is the play in which this great artist achieved such heights on the stage, and the Metro presentation repeats the enormous success of the stage version. "Out of the Fog" will shortly be presented at Crystal Palace. Albert Capellani, the distinguished French director, produced the film.

Clara Kimball Young will be S£en in "Magda," to be presented at Everybody's next week, in a role made famous by Bernhardt and Duse. This is one of the finest achievements of this distinguished artist' of the screen. "Magda" was produced under the direction of Emilc Chantard, by Miss Young's own company, and released by Select, and is a five-part screen version of Herman Sudermann 's celebrated play of the same title, prepared for the screen by Margaret Turnbull. "Magda" is so intensely dramatic, so skilfully acted and so intelligently produced, that \t commands the spectator's i attention throughout. Miss Young's beauty and •enthusiasm give a new appeal to this famous role.

* * « Taylor Holmes, a well-known popular star of the stage and screen, will be seen at tire Queen's next week in "Two Bit Seats," a snappy five-reel comedy-drama produced by the Essanay Film Company. Gladys Johnson is the author of the story, and an excellent supporting east of players includes Marguerite Clayton, as the heroine, Sydney Ainsworth, John Cossar and several others. Mrs Clayton will be .favourably remembered for her characterisations in Essanay's "Is Marriage Sacred?" series.

It is ihe Liberty's proud privilege to present Mary Pickford and her own company in Jean Webster's celebrated ,story, "Daddy Long Legs," from the famous stage play of that name. Mary Pickford knows the value of a good story. She paid $40,000 for the rights to screen "Daddy Long Legs," the story of which the whole country knows and loves. The screen version offers a combination of star, director and scenario in a story of heart interest and comedy, delightfully blended into a picture of unique excellence. ''Little Mary's" interpretation of Judy has been acclaimed the very best portrayal of her whole career before the camera. Marshall Neilan directed, and Mahlon Hamilton played the title role.
