"If you young men think you can come over from Australia, and act as racecourse fiends here, you are very much mistaken," said his Honour Mr Justice Herdman in sentencing Joseph Terrance Maher at the Supreme Court this morning, for having snatched a bundle of notes from a totalisator window at the Addington Racecourse last August. His Honour added that this was the second man from Australia with whom he had had to deal at this session of the Court. Now that the War is over, the travelling public seems to cherish the idea that passports and permits to visit Australia and further overseas are no longer necessary. That is not so, however. Mr S. J. Collett informed a SUN representative to-day that he has been very busy lately arranging these passports and permits. Jt takes five or six days to get a permit through in the ordinary course, and a minimum of a fortnight for ,i passport. Mr Collett stressed the necessity of early application being made for permits and passports.
