TURF TOPICS.

All the fast work at Bicearton this morning was accomplished on the outside of the course proper, which, though a trifle dead after the rain, afforded nice going. A large number of horses were galloped, and altogether the proceedings were of an interesting nature. Michaela, with the assistance of a companion, opened proceedings by easilv leaving six furlongs behind in 1. 18 2-5. Last year's Stewards' Handicap winner finished really well. Miss Mimic, alone, jumped off at the mile post, and, clapping on the pace, left the first half-mile behind in ulsec, and the full mile in 1.46. She did it very well. •

lieathercote, who had the assistance of Macduff over the last mile, covered a mile and a quarter in 2.14 2-5, finishing up his task well. Inah, alone, skipped over four furlongs in 51sec, and Jewish Maid, with Larissa, took 1.35 to cover seven furlongs. Head Sea took 1.42 over the same journey. Onslaught, who had the assistance of Roval Stag and Nightraider, pleased by the" way he left a mile behind in 1.46. At the finish Royal Stag was half a length away, and Nightraider over a length further hack. Rossini had no difficulty is disposing of Afterglow at the conclusion of a mile run in 1.47 2-5. The Derby colt I looks well.

Eleus had no trouble to heat Bingham over a mile and a-half run in 2.46, Bingham being some lengths away. Dribble, alone, left six furlongs behind in 1.18, finishing well. Algidus ami Nantville wore on terms at the conclusion of four furlongs run in 52see. Tigritiya, alono, skipped over four furlongs in 50 2-5, and walked away apparently sound. Royal Star beat Tremena over six furloiigs run in 1.17 3-5, with Amarranth, who went the last five, finishing on well. Punka just beat Brackenfield over five furlongs run in 1.3. A gallop that caused a lot of interest was "the mile and a quarter between Vagabond, Maseot, Lucid (who will not start in the Cup), and Hurry Up. They finished in the order named, Vagabond beating Mascot by half a length with Lucid four lengths further away, and Hurry T T p fully 10 lengths from Vagabond' The journey took 2.17 or 3sec longer than Gay Lad's effort. Desert Gold 'easily beat Murihiku over five furlongs, which was left behind in 1.3 3-5.

Bon Spec, with W. Bush, who ■will ride him in the Stewards' Handicap, in the saddle, created a stir by dashing over five furlongs in 1.2, but it may not be generally known that he cut off a lot of ground by going inside a trestle. After breakfast the track was a little faster. Kilrush gave Sans Souci three lengths start and beat him by a chain over seven furlongs, run in 1.31 2-5, the best gallop of the morning over that journey. Kilrush is very well, and should run prominently in the Cup. Charley, alone, dashed over five furlongs in 1.6. Loval Arch easily left six furlongs behind in 1.18 11-5. ' Bombproof and a companion left the last five of six furlongs behind in 1.5. Fabrinade sprinted down the straight with a good weight up, moving well. Humbug and Gasbag both pleased by the way they got through their work. Moorfowl and Winter Wind also gave a really good showing. There was no time taken in the barrier sprints by the young ones. A quartet of Wellington horses, in Battle Song, Astinome, Sonnino and Waimatao, arrived from the north this morning to fulfil engagements at the Cup meeting. According to "Sir Modred," Eleus can be regarded as a doubtful starter in the New Zealand Cup. The gelding has not done a solid enough preparation to see out a two-mile contest, and may be better suited by some of the shorterdistance events at the meeting. Bonnie Maid was withdrawn from all engagements at the C.J.C. Metropolitan Meeting at ,'i.3o p.m. yesterday. Final payments and acceptances' in connection with the Canterbury Jockey Club's Metropolitan Meeting close at 8 p.m. to-morrow. Roy Berry has been granted a trainer's license by the Duuedin J.C., and expects to have a select team under ills care in the near future (according to an lnvercargill authority). The colt by Kentloek (Malster —Satire, by Lochiel —Profane) from Mezzo, by Finland —De Murska, by Gipsy Grand-—■ lima (dam of Obsono and Grand Opera, in turn dam of Soldier's Chorus, Cherubini, Rossini, etc.), whom he brought to lnvercargill with him, is now doing rather well. Several Canterbury trailers intend being represented at the Otahuhu Trotting Club's Spring Meeting, amongst their number being J. Bryce, A. Fleming and K. Smith. Their teams will probably include Gallantry, Bigamist, Miss Rolfe, Partner, Sunred, Peter Mac, Mykot, Harold Devon and Peter McMillan.

The recent rainfall has left the big track at Addington quite unfit for training operations, and there is little chance of its being in commission again before Thursday. This morning a number of trainers gave their charges easy tasks on the half-mile track, but the going was decidedly on the rough side. According to the programme, handicaps for first-day events at the Forbury Park Trotting Club's meeting are due on Thursday, November 13. If this date is adhered to it will mean that the handicapper will have to frame his adjustments before seeing the second and third day's racing at Addington, which will place him in an awkward position. On his recent showing at Greymouth, Mykot appears to be well treated in both his first-day events at the Otahuhu Trotting Club's meeting, and it should be only a quostion of his leaving the mark properly to get some of the money. Acceptances for first-day events at the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club's Spring Meeting close at noon tomorrow. Should the 'big track at Addington be in favourable condition to-morrow morning, B. Jarden intends giving Author Dillon another work-out. If the going is not up to expectations the work-out will be accomplished on Thursday. Amongst the 15 yearlings to be submitted to auction on behalf of Mr J. Buchanan, on November I.*!, are 10 Martians and three Solferinos. The former batch includes a full-brother to Rossini and a full-sister to Nones. TEMPLAR.
