SWIMMING.

A WQRLD'S RECORD. By Cable. — Press Association. — Copyright. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Rcc. Nov. 4, 9.40) HONOLULU, Nov. 1. Norman Ross created a world's record by swimming 1000 yards in open water in 12min 443 sec. [Norman Ross, of the Illinois Athletic Club, is the present world's champion, having established his right to that title at the recent inter-Allied contests, when he defeated, among others, the redoubtable W. Longworth, of Australia. The world's best figures for 1000 yards were 12min 525 sec, standing to the credit of the late B. B. Kieran. The American record was ISmin 7Jsec, made by Ludy Longer, at Honolulu, in 1910, and the English record was 13mln 19lscc, held by J. G. Hadfleld. It is probable that Ross will visit New Zealand in March next.]
