CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT. Press Association. NAPIER, Sept. 5. As the result of the day's play in the golf championships, Butters and McEwan are left in the final for the professionals, and Duncan and Crosse will decide who is to be New Zealand's amateur champion. Results: — PROFESSIONALS. W. McEwan beat J, A. Clements, 1 up. It. C. Butters beat J. Wart, 1 up. AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP. Sapi Tareha (Napier) beat R. M. George (Auckland), 5 up and 3 to play. H. E. Crosse (Napier) beat D. McCormack {Auckland), 7 up and 5 to play. Imlay Saunders (Wanganui) beat W. O'Callaghan (Hawcra), 5 up and 4 to play. A. D. S. Duncan (Wellington) beat £ Morpeth (Waihi), 4 up and 2 to play. Semi-finals. .. H. E. Crosse beat Kapi Tareha, 5 up and 4 to play. A. I). S. Duncan beat Imlay Saunders, 7 lip and 5 to play. MEDAL COMPETITION. In the afternoon a medal competition was held. Ranger and Miller divide the prizes.
Golfing enthusiasts will be interested to learn that Mr E. S. Douglas, who won the New Zealand Championship at Napier recently, used Worthington three-point green balls throughout his rounds.
