REPATRIATION.
A SATISFACTORY REMM^jS Mailers in regard lo the employment of returned soldiers are progressing satisfactorily, according lo a statement made to a Son representative on Saturday evening by - IK9 Director of Repatriation (Mr 'jfcgHM Samson). Mr Samson had just returned from a visit lo Timarn, Ddbedin, and Invercargill, -where he had been investigating Ibe condition of affairs in these districts. In the three places named, Mr Samson found no unemployment among returned soldiers. The staffs in Ibe repatriation offices were working enthusiastically, and he could oof speak foo highly of the Repatriation He was pleased to be able lo say that Ihe relations of Ibe department with the returned men were of the happiest, the men realising that everything possible was being done for them by the department The main difficulty being experienced was in connection with the provision of light employment for sick and disabled men. To help to meet this problem, tbe department was establishing an instructional boot factory at Auckland. The department was also starting trade instructional schools in Auckland, Wellington, and Dunedin. All-day instruction would be given in various lines, including woodwork, mechanics, and commercial work. The department subsidised the students up to £2 107- per In Chrislchureh they were being held up in connection with tbe establishment of a trade instructional school by the difficulty in connectiba with the securing of the school do Moorhouse Avenue. If the children / could be transferred and the school secured by Ihe Repatriation Board, a trade instructional school would he established in Chrislchureh. ." Mr Samson expressed the hope lhal Ihe various repatriation boards would not nefilect effective advertising as an aid in securing employment.
