DANCE AT PARK TERRACE.

Last evening Mr and Mrs H. D. Acland entertained a large number of friends at a ball, given at. their home in PaTk Terrace. Private dances, which never ceased, even during the war years, are enjoying an exceeding vogue with the approach of winter weather, and hostesses are able to contemplate dances in a much less doubtful frame of mind than in war-time, when partners —men partners, that is—were so few. The hew fox-trotting craze also conduces to frequent gatherings, and, altogether; the winter promises to be a real dancing •season. Last evening's dance was given in honour of Miss Nancy Thomson, of Geraldine, and was altogether a delightful function. Dancing took place in the drawing-room-, which is of a size sufficient for a very big hall, and which was beautifully decorated with pink and russet.chrysanthemums. A unique feature was a long rope of chrysanthemums, something after the style of a daisy chain, which was festooned across the ceiling. .Miss Macdonald supplied the music, extra's being played by Mr Heathcote Helmore and Miss Betty Cotterill. . A tempting supper was served in a j marquee, light refreshments being served from a buffet, in the hall during . the evening. Mrs Acland wore a striking gown in copper-red satin de soie, over which was draped a tunic of very dark blue ninon. Gold shoes, and stockings to matelv the foundation of the gown, completed a very becoming toilette. Amongst the guests were two girls, who each made their debut at the ball —Misses Phyllis Sharpe and Miss Pinckney—-who were frocked in simple, elegant white frocks. Others present included: —Hon. J. and Mrs Borthwick, Mrs Henry Acland, Mr and Mrs Cuth-' bert Harper, Mrs Poster, Mrs Eric Harper, Mrs Johnson, Mr and Mrs J. Hall, Dr. and Mrs Gibson, Dr. and Mrs Stevenson, Misses Ella Helmore, D; Cowlishaw, Pratt, Gwen. Million, Joan Carrington, Gladvs Knight (Racecourse Hill), Gould, Clifford, Wells, S.
