EXPANSION OF THE CO-OP.

TO THE FARMERS AND OTHERS OF CANTERBURY.

It is now universally conceded that New Zealand leads the world as regards the Farmers' Co-operative Movement, and it redounds to the credit of Canterbury that it has the largest Association of Its Mnd in the Southern Hemisphere. However, this was only made possible through the support accorded by the individual shareholders, and when we realise that commissions are lower in Canterbury than in any other province in the Dominion, it provides sufficient evidence to justify its existence.

Further, taking a series of years, the cost of living is lower in Christchurch than elsewhere, despite the railage charge from Port to City. Moreover, with such facts available, does it not afford sufficient food for thought, and act as an impetus to Farmers to increase their Share Capital, to maintain the greatest economic influence they possess in the commercial world. What would the Farmer have to pay if the Co-op. did not exist 7 This is the question to ponder over, and the answer is to be easily found in the actual results attained. The following are a few of the salient points deserving the closest scrutiny '.—— '" . Nominal Capital .. .. £1,250,000 Subscribed Capital .. £816,673 - Paid-up Capital .. .. £536,910..
