GAME-SHOOTING.

THE SEASON OPENS.

The shooting season opened yesterday, and a large number of sportsmen vent out to Lake Ellcsmere and other shooting resorts. The weather conditions wero unfavourable for shooting, a sou'-wester being neeessary to enstrfe a good bag of ducks. However, considering the conditions, some very fair bags were obtained, one sportsman securing 14 ducks. The native game is reported to be plentiful, so that, if the weather conditions become favourable, some good bags should be secured. The grey duek and swan season will be topen until July 31, but for paradise duck until May 31 only. Tor pukeko the season is a closed one, but is open for pheasant and quail.
