Tiie life of the Epidemie Commission has been extended until the 14th inst., by which time its complete report will be ready and available to the Press, . The Christchnrch Fire Brigade received a call at 11.30 to-day to No. 14, Little York Street, Opawa. A fire in a fence was extinguished with little damage done. Again at 12.66 p.m. the brigade went to No. 40 Weston Road, St. Albans. A fire here had slightly damaged a fence. .The French city of Epernay is undermined by miles of vaults used chieily for the storage of wine. They are hewn out. of solid chalk on which the city is built.
