OUTBREAKS OF FIRE.
HOUSE DESTROYED AT SYDENHAM.
The City Fire Brigade turned out at 8.57 on Saturday night to a fire at No. 144 Carlyle Street, Sydenham. The building—a five-roomed one—was owned bjjjMr Bullock, of Ashburton, the occupier being Mr ,). A. Schultz. The house with its contents was practically a, total loss. The contents were insured for £175 in the Northern Insurance Office. ' An outbuilding, valued at £4O, situated at the back of the residence belonging to the Selwyn Plantation Board, Darfield, was destroyed at I.JR) yesterday morning. Thanks to t!' • efforts of the board's superintendent, the main building was saved. A call at 12.43 p.ii... yesterday brought the brigade' to a fire at the Prison Gate Home, o'2 Poulsori Street, Addington. The . macrocnrpa fence dividiiig the Addington tennis courts and the Home was destroyed. Again at 10.4 o'clock last evening, a call from the Chief Post Office was answered. However, before the brigade arrived, the lire—a small one in a locker—was extinguished.
