W.C.T.U.
At the monthly meeting of the Ashburton WC.T.U., which was largely attended, Mrs V\. T. Lill presided. Mrs W. H. Robinson was elected delegate to the Napier Convention in April, and Mrs J. Thompson as substitute. The following were appointed ,*; Social Committee for the ensuing year: -.; Mesdames W. H. Robinson, J. Moore,'ft. O. Amos, A. Amos, son, and Gowan. Mrs Gowan to be superiritendtnt. " Visitors from Timaru and Port Chalmers, fjl also Mrs J. Dent (Blenheim) were welcomed. "What Is the best form of memorial to our fallen soldiers?" was the subject set down for discussion. The subject, which ' was ably handled by Mrs G. Frost, created an animated discussion and called forth I several notable suggestions. Mrs Llll briefly referred to the good workdone by Airs Frost in the interests of the <J union during her three years' residency in ' . Ashburton, and on behalf of the members presented her with a brooch as a slight ' memento of their esteem. Mrs J. Thompson also presented Mrs Burley with a handsome Bible, in recognition of past- services. Both recipients suitably acknowledged the gifts.
