FLOATING COMPANIES.

WARNING BY FINANCE MINISTER. [Special to The Sun.] AVELLINGTON, March 5. The raising of capital for companies is still subject to the consent of the Government, and the Acting-Minister of Finance (the Hon. A. M. Myers) explained to-day, in this connection, that the consent of the Government to the raising of capital in any particular case did not imply official approval of the undertaking proposed. It appears that some investors have been misled by the announcement that the Government has authorised the issue of shares or debentures. They have assumed that the announcement meant that the Government had inquired into the venture and had decided that it was sound.- Just how far the inquiries actually do proceed cannot be stated. But the Minister states that investors' must not imagine that they are protected in any way by the Government's consent to the raising of capital.
