Sir, —Tu yesterday’s issue you state that this sum does not purchase any freehold property, buildings, etc.; this in reply to your correspondent “In the Dark’’ —query. I must confess I thought it was proposed to buy the trade right out —breweries, pubs, and wine merchants. Are we to understand that this £4,500,000 is a present to the Trade for going out of business at an earlier date than they otherwise would if Prohibition was carried in the ordinary way!—l am, etc., W.
