OUT OF WORK.
RETURNED SOLDIERS' POSITION
PROTEST BY ASSOCIATION.
The number of returned soldiers wanting work in the city provided the basis for a lively discussion by the executive of the Christchureh branch of the Returned Soldiers' Association last evening. The secretary reported that the Canterbury District Repatriation Board had on its books the names of 100 returned soldiers who were seeking employment. It was felt that this kind of thing was a scandal, and, as a large number of men would be! returning within the next few weeks, the position would become much more serious if something could not be done. I The meeting unanimously resolved: "This executive of the Christchureh Returned Soldiers' Association appeals to Christchureh employers to engage returned soldiers whenever possible. It is felt that, whilst there is a large number of firms who engage returned soldiers, others are not playing the game in that they are content to employ girls and women to do men's work. In view of the fact that there are at present 100 returned soldiers seeking employment, we ask all employers to endeavour to find work for these men." It was decided to send copies of the resolution to the Repatriation Board and to the Employers' Association.
