SWIMMING.

DOMINION CHAMPIONSHIPS. TWO RECORDS BROKEN. Two records were broken at the third annual Dominion schools' anil intermediate swimming championships hfld in the Tepid Batlis last evening under the auspices of the Canterbury centre of the N.Z.A.S.A. The swimming generally was of a high grade. Great credit is due to the officials who controlled the events, the races being got off expeditiously, while the general arrangements worked harmoniously. The chief interest in the meeting lies in the fact that the centre securing the most points holds the New Zealand War Memorial Shield for a year. The championship meeting will be extended over this evening and Thursday evening. So far, Canterbury has six points, Wellington three points and Wauganui one point.

Apart from the schools' and intermediate events, for the first time since the war commenced, the 100 yds Ladies' Open Championship was decided. A Christchurch school girl. Miss G. Shand, who is under 14 years of age, beat the previous holder of the title and the record holder, Miss D. Farquhar, of Auckland, in a neck and neck struggle by a bare six inches. In the 100 yds Schoolgirls' New Zealand Championship, the previous record-holder, Miss V. Walroud, a diminutive Auckland swimmer, in her heat clipped 6 4-ssec off her record of 89 3-ssec. The final has yet to be decided. The other smashed record occurred in the 880 yds intermediate championship. C. E. Low, of Opaw.'i, achieved this result, bettering the previous time of 13min 50 2-5 sec. established by D. Murrell, of Wellington, by osec."
