The Lyttelton Harbour Board received a circular letter from the superintendent of the National Provident Fund to-day asking it to provide superannuation benefits for its employees under the "scheme. The secretary (Mr 0. J. Williams) said that the scheme would cost the board .£1370 per year, of which £IOOO would bo for long service men. This latter amount would be eventually reduced to £."!00 as the elder men retired. The employees had been previously circularised on the question, and had unanimously approved the scheme. It was decided, on the motion of Mr J. J. Graham, that the secretary should collect all necessary data and present it to the new board for decision.
