CARGO PILLAGING.

SAILORS SET TO WATCH. BUT PARTICIPATE THEMSELVES. Press Association . WELLINGTON, March 5. During the period of her unloading here seven members of the crew of the American ship Tonowanda were told off to keep an eye on the holds in order that pillaging might he detected. That pillaging did go on is proved by claims amounting to over £SOO which have been made against the agents of the vessel. Yesterday the police boarded the vessel and discovered articles of the value of £9 14/- among the belongings of the men who had been appointed to supervise the unloading. At the Magistrate's Court to-day all seven pleaded guilty, but on the application of the police were remanded till Monday next, to allow of inquiries as to what occurred on the vessel while in Auckland.
