Drawn as a member of a special jury in the Supreme Court yesterday, Mr George Gould failed to appear when his name was called. His Honour Mr Justice Herdrnan deferred dealing with the matter until proof of service had been shown. This morning the bailiff, who had personally served Mr Gould, gave evidence of that service, and stated that on receiving the summons, on February 25, Mr Gould said that he had a bad leg and was doubtful if he could appear. However, his Honour elicited that service was effected in Mr Gould's office in Hereford Street, and that Mr Gould was attending to his business at the time. Commenting that no explanation of any kind had been offered, his Honour said that Mr Gould would be fined £2 unless cause for his absence were shown.
