WATER SUPPLY BOARD

WAIMAKARIRI-ASHLEY. The last ordinary meeting of the Wai-makariri-Ashlev Water Supply Board was attended by Messrs Ryan (In the chair), Wayland, and Moderate. Leave of absence was granted Messrs Cooper and Brown. The surveyor's report, which was adopted, stated that during the previous '.'B days the dally average depth of water on sill of intake at Brown's Rock head works had been sft .'tin, and during the same period the daily average depth- of water passing the flume at Block Cutting had been 2ft. giving a full supply to the district. During the mouth there were not any freshets in the river, which still continues in a favourable position. The head works are in good order excepting for the formation of silt spits, which, owing to the team being down country, will be removed Iry the spare horse, harrows, and sluicing in a few hours at the tlrst opportunity. The river still keeps away from the damaged timber groyne, and the work of repairs will be put in hand at the earliest moment. The team is being employed under Ranger Ramsey carting materials' for bridges and culverts, piping and filling in race on road at C.ust and carting materials for long concrete limning in Sprlugbank main race. The upper main I race has lieen cleaned in several places by Ranger Morris without extra labour. A [ concrete pipe crossing has been placed on Poyntz's Road, and .six chains of race made to divert water race from a storm-water channel. The race on road beyond Cast has been piped for 200 ft and levelled in. and n short piece of protective fence will be erected at an early opportunity. The "fall" was improved throughout entire length, the remaining sides widened, and the timber llumiug well banked up, and the race is nowill good order. A long piece of steel-lined timber fluming over 10ft at Springhank hud decayed and was wasting water. It Is being renewed in concrete, and is practically finished. An old decayed flume on Rangiora back road has been replaced by pipes under storm-water channel. The work of renewing gate crossings Into properties on OxfordRaugiora Road and the concrete bridges over main race at Smith's, Fernside, and Catherwood's is now in hand. A quotation for the necessary materials for the proposed extension of groyne at Brown's Hock head works should be considered at a visit of inspection by the board to the head works nevt month, so that the matter could be decided and preparations be made to put the work in hand early. Mr C. S. Forbes was granted a supply of water for a ram. subject to work being" approved and there being no waste of water. Mr Nankeville interviewed the hoard re water Trom flume getting on to his land at Cust and the blocking of culvert on Tipping's Road, aud it was agreed that steps would be taken to try and remedy the faults.

The question of inspecting head works was postponed to next meeting.
