At Wellington yesterday, before the Chief Justice, Jessie Louisa Hotop Bought a divorce from her husband, Dr Francis Rudolph Hotop, on the grounds of habitual drunkenness and ill-treat-ment. The respondent is a medical officer in the employ of the Defence Department. After hearing the evidence (says a Press Association message) his Honour said it was a pity that the Defence Department should place such a man in charge of soldier patients. He granted a decree nisi, to he made absolute in three months.
The official history of New Zealand's part in the war will be compiled in three volumes, the first dealing with Gallipoli, the second with Egypt and Palestine, and the third with France. Part, of the first volume has already been written by an officer who served Oil Gallipoli, and it meets the approval of Sir James Allen. Probably the rest of the volume will be entrusted to the same hand. Cable messages have been .s°nt to Sir Alexander Godley and Major-General E. W. C. Tho opening of the motor-cycle racing season proved to be a field day for tho Harlcy Davidsons. Of the three events tho Harley Davidsons secured two firsts from scratch, three seconds, and one third. Maugham (Harley Davidson), was the star performer, his phenomenal riding being a feature of the meeting, ■winning the eight-lap open from scratch, 10-lap open from scratch, and second from scratch iu jhc 15-lap open, being beaten by the narrowest margin after conceding the -winner, Dawber (Indian) 90sce. The meeting of such champions as Mangham, Coleman, Crawley, Whitehead, Dawber, and others, was watched •with the keenest interest. The Harley Davidson trio, Mangham, Crawley and "Whitehead, carried the honours of the day. It is to be regretted that these famous machines will not be exhibited at this year's show, the American Government having commandeered the whole output of the Harley Davidson factory for war purposes. The agents, Messrs Jones Bros., Ltd., Clock Tower, are exhibiting in their window the machine ridden by Mangham in his Dannevirke success, also Kenuett's machine, which secured first and fastest time in last Saturday's Beach races. .8
