ORDER REQUIRING THE CLOSING OF BUILDINGS FOR THE PREVENTION OF SPREAD OF A DANGEROUS INFECTIOUS DISEASE—TO WIT INFLUENZA. INFLUENZA. PURSUANT to Section 18 of the Public Health Act, 1908, and the special powers conferred on me thereunder by his Excellency the Governor-General, I, HERBERT CHESSON, District Health Officer, hereby require all places and buildings within the Canterbury-Westland Health District enumerated in the schedule below, be isolated by being closed until further notice, j During the period of such isolation no person shall enter any such building save for the purpose of cleansing or disinfecting the same, or for some other purpose directed by me:— THEATRES. PICTURE THEATRES. DANCING HALLS. BILLIARD SALOONS. SHOOTING GALLERIES. CONCERT ROOMS. PUBLIC HALLS. LIBRARIES. AND OTHER PLACES OF ENTERTAINMENT. ALSO ALL PUBLIC AND PRIVATE SCHOOLS, SUNDAY SCHOOLS, COLLEGES, OR OTHER EDUCATIONAL ESTABLISHMENTS. ALL PLACES USED FOR RACE MEETINGS, SHOWS, OR EXHIBITIONS OF ANY KIND. ALSO, ALL CHURCHES, CHAPELS, AND OTHER PLACES USED FOR RELIGIOUS SERVICES. AND ANY PLACE NOT INCLUDED IN THE ABOVE SCHEDULE WHICH IS, OR MAY BE, USED FOR PUBLIC MEETINGS OR GATHERINGS, INCLUDING SALES BY AUCTION. ALSO, ALL BARBERS AND HAIRDRESSING SALOONS. Pursuant to Section 18 of the Public Health Act, 1908, and the Special Powers con- , f erred on me thereunder by ; his Excellency the Governor-General, I, Herbert Chesson, District Health Officer, hereby require that ALL HOTEL BARS, BARS of CHARTERED CLUBS, BREWERIES, WINE AND SPIRIT BUSINESSES, within the Canterbury-West-land Health District, BE CLOSED FORTHWITH and until further notice. All MARBLE BARS, REFRESHMENT ROOMS, and TEA ROOMS shall also he closed, except during the following hours:— 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. 12 noon to 2 p.m. 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Dated at Christchurch this 19th day of November, 1918.
