MUNICIPAL NEGLECT.
To the Editor of THE SUN. Sir, —I heartily endorse the objection raised by “Ratepayer” regarding the obnoxious obstructions to be met with in various parts of the city, and the excuse offered by V. M. Wilson evokes a smile. It is the duty of those in charge of property to keep it from inconveniencing the public, and it is also the City Council's duty to see to it, and not frame by-laws for amusement’s sake. I can point out a still worse case than that mentioned by ‘‘Ratepayer.” There are enormous hedges adorning the footpaths in Springfield Road, north of Edgewave Road, that render it impossible for two medium-sized persons to pass each other without the risk of one falling into the ditch, or tiie other having his hat knocked off or clothes torn on account of the hedges. I may also mention that the condition of some of the channels in St. Albans, e.g., Cranford Street, Trafalgar Street, etc., is deplorable, especially at the present time. Water lies stagnant hi them for days on end, and no attempt whatever (so far as 1 can see) is made to clear them and the intolerable stench thev create. —I am, etc., ALLEY BABA.
