FATAL FIRE.
DISASTER IN SYDNEY. By Cable. — Press Association. — Copyright. SYDNEY, June 21. The ages of the Himmelbergs, the victims of the Sussex Street fire, ranged from seven to 21 years. When the outbreak was discovered the father went to warn -the neighbours, leaving the family on the ground floor. They apparently returned upstairs to secure their money. After the fire £2OOO, including £SOO in gold, and £7lO in silver, was found hidden in various parts of the building. The debris is still yielding much silver coinage, which rained on the firemen as they worked. At the outbreak of the war Himmelberg withdrew his savings from the bank, fearing for its safety, and hoarded it under the floorboards and inside mattresses and other curious places. [A cable message received yesterday stated: —Fire gutted a second-hand clothing shop in Sussex Street. The proprietor's four children, who were sleeping upstairs, were su.tteated. The mother jumped from a window, and was injured. She is now in hospital.]
