MILITARY SERVICE.

ASHBURTON APPEALS. The Second Military Service Board, consisting of Messrs H. W. Bishop, S.M. (chairman), F. T. Eldridge, and M. G. Rich, with Major K. M. Gresson as military representative, sat at Ashburton to-day. The application of Albert Croy, farmer, Rakaia, for time, was dismissed. In the case of John Digby, farm manager, the Efficiency Board's report was unfavourable, but time was granted till July 29. The appeal of George Fittoek, dairy and sheep fanner, Staveley, was. adjourned sine die. In the case of Samuel Gray, farmer and shearer, Hinds, the appeal was: dismissed. ,- The appeal of George Kelly, farmer, Lyndhurst, was adjourned till the next sitting for the completion of his brother's medical examination. Henry Knox, a conscientious objector, said he was willing to serve in the ambulance, and his .appeal was dismissed, he to be recommended for ambulance work. The application of the mother of Chas. Kellec to have her son returned from the front was dismissed. The care of William Langley, storekeeper, Chertsey, was referred to the Efficiency Board. Fred Meakin, confectioner, Ashburton, appealed on the grounds that his allowance was insufficient to support his wife and child. The appeal was dismissed. The employer of George Miller, en-gine-driver, Tinwald, applied for his exemption, and the case was adjourned sine die. The appeal of William Price, farm hand, Doric, was dismissed. Charles Buddenklau, farmer, Bynilh'nrst, said he was joining the Flying Corps, and his appeal was adjourned sine die. In the case of Robert Spencer, Rakaia, lime was allowed till July 15. Frank Wear, motor agent, Ashburton, was transferred to Class C. The rase of Donald Banks, farmer, Rakaia, who is farming over 1000 acres, was referred to the Efficiency Hoard. (Proceeding.)
