TRAMWAYS BOARD.
CANDIDATES FOR ELECTION. The Labour Representation Committee has decided to contest the approachTramways Board elections. Two candidates will be nominated, one for the Centre Bub-district (which combines the Christchurch, St. Albans, and Sydenham areas), and one for Lin wood. Mr E. J. Howard has been selected to contest the Central Sub-district, and Mr Hiram Hunter the Linwood Sub-district. Although the Labour Party apparently does not contemplate contesting the representation of other sub-districts, it is probable that the sitting members for Ricearton (Mr S. A. Staples) and New Brighton (Mr J. A. Flesher) will be opposed by the nominees of a strong committee which is taking part in the elections. For the New Brighton Subdistrict, Mr W. .1. Walter, a member of the Lyttelton Harbour Board and the North Canterbury Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, will be the committee's candidate. Mr J. Wood, who has had considerable experience in tramway administration, will probably be a candidate for either the Ricearton or Central Subdistricts. Another gentleman who has been asked to be a candidate is Mr J. J. Graham, ex-Mayor of Woolston, who contested the Sumner-Woolstoh Subdistrict against the sitting member, the Hon. J). Barr, at the last Tramways Board election. Mr Graham, however, has given a non-committal answer, and still has the matter under consideration. Mr Barr has already been nominated for the seat.
