THE FEILDING ASSAULT.

ONE MAN CONVICTED. Prtss Association. PALMKRSTON NORTH, May 16. Before Mr Justice Hosking, Michael Roughan, Simon MeGreal, and James Egan were charged with assaulting the Rev. Frederick Stockwell at Feilding on February 13 anil doing him grievous bodily harm. Evidence was given that at the conclusion of a Protestant Political Association meeting a crowd followed Air Stockwell and other clergymen along the street. Eventually Mr Stockwell was violently assaulted, and received injuries from which he is still suffering. After hearing evidence for the prose- | cution, the Judge ordered that MeGreal j and Egan should be discharged, as there was no evidence to connect them with the actual assault. The .lodge summed up against! Roughan. The jury retnrned a verdict of guilty. Sentence was deferred.
