TO-DAY'S CASES. Mr T. A. B. Bailey. S.M.. preside* at the Magistrate's Court this moruDrunkenness. —Two fir~t offenders for 'drunkenness were fined '>/■, iu default j24 hours" imprisonment. By-law Breaches. —For driving a vehicle without lights, William Dowl- | ing was fined 10/- and costs. On a charge of cycling on the footpath, Claude McDonald was lined 10/- and costs. William llar'is, for driving a cart over an intersection in the city at a dangerous pace was fined 5/- and costs. Permitting Drunkenness.—Robert John Paul (Mr F. W. .lohnstont, the licensee of the Oxford Hotel, was charged with permitting drunkenness on his premises. The case had been adjourned from May 8 when it was partly heard. Defendant was convicted and lined -JO/- and costs. Mr Johnston made application to have tho penalty increased in order to enable defendant to appeal. The application was refused. Two Charges.—Yi.-tor Francois Remind (Mr \V. .1. Hunter*, pleaded not guilty to charges of being drunk while in charge of a horse and cart, and with driving without lights. After hearing mm hj evidence the Magistrate said that there was a conflict of opinion as to whether the man was drunk. The charge of drunkenness would be dismissed, while on the other charge defendant would be fined £1 and costs.
