WORK OF REPATRIATION.
MINISTRY SUGGESTED. Press Association. WELLINGTON, May 17. The Wellington Branch of the Returned Soldiers' Association passed the following remits, to be submitted to the annual conference to be held shortly at Auckland:— (1) Seeing that married returned soldiers who volunteered for active service would have been called up in due course under the Second Division scheme, the conference be asked to urge the Government to see that the allowances for the wives and children of those volunteers be made retrospective, according to the existing scale; (2) That a Minister of Repatriation be appointed, whose chief duty shall be to create a department and control such for the purpose of bringing back our manhood to normal civilian conditions; (3) That shell-shock, neurasthenic and mental cases should not be discharged until thev have been cured of their disability; and, furthermore, that institutions of a special nature be established in the country for that purpose; (4) That the settlement of returned soldiers on the land be inquired into, and a commission set up for the purpose of determining the mode of purchase of land, housing, and other problems connected with it; (5) That seeing the Government asks soldiers and soldiers' relatives to bear the cost of duplicates when decorations are lost in transit, the Government be recpiested to pay the cost of all duplicate decorations.
