MAGISTRATE'S COURT. From Our Own Correspondent. In the Magistrate's Court ,to-day, before Mr V. G. Day, S.M., L. Andrews, for riding a cycle on the railway platYorm, was fined 5/- and costs. , Two juvenile offenders were charged with burning a stack of hay. Their parents had paid the cost of the damage. The case was adjourned for three months.

W. J. Maddren was charged with trespassing on and refusing to leave premises at Hinds. He was convicted and ordered to pay costs. Judgment, with costs, was given as follows:—Manchester Bros. v. J. Kiernan, £l6 6/10; J. E. Rule'v. J. W. Chapman, £l9 12/8; W. Osman and Co. v. C. Legge (judgment summons), £5 9/6. BAND OF HOPE UNION. a The annual meeting of the . Canterbury Blind of Hope Union was held last evening in the Y.M.C.A building. The president, Mr \V. Goodman, was In the chair, and there was a large attendance of delegates. The balance-sheet, showing a credit balance of £42 12/1, was adopted. The election of officers resulted as follows:—President, Mr YV. Goodman; vicepresidents, Miss A. G. Musgrovc, Messrs NY. R. Hlazey, T. YV. West, and E. A. M. Leaver; secretary, Mr P. C. Lucas; assistant secretary, Mr .!. Fraser; treasurer, Mr 1". T Boyce; executive, Mrs J. YV. Hull, Messrs I". Cole, L. Bilcliff, and «C. H. Basrand; auditors, Messrs E. A. M. Leaver and YV M. Berrill. It was decided to hold the annual musical and elocutionary contests in October. Committees were set up to make arrangements. The conveners of committees are as follow: Stage. Mr F. Cole; competitors, Mrs M. Gunncll; hall, Messrs E. A.' M. Leaver and Gunnel); prize fund, Mr YV. Goodman. Messrs H. Gladstone Hill, It. Malcolm, M. J. A. Hough, A. M. Owen, and Mrs \Y. 11. Ford have consented to act as judges for the competitions. A vote of thanks was passed to the retiring officers. — • ■> ■--■.Mi-ui J '^l
