BOWLING.

CHRISTCHURCH CLUB. There was a good attendance at the third annual meeting of the Christchurch Bowling Club last evening, the president (Mr E. E. Daniels) being in the chair. The report stated that the financial position might be considered satisfactory, but the club had had to be very careful in its expenditure. Thanks were due to all those who had subscribed to the green improvement and loan redemption funds, especially to Messrs MncPougall, Maddison, and Clark, for special donations. Dining the season the membership had decreased from 8t to 7.1. Referring to the club's representation on active service, the report stated that soldier members were being kept financial, and tendered deep sympathy to those members who had suffered bereavements. Appreciative reference was made to the services rendered by the various staffs. The balance-sheet showed a credit of £55 13/11-' The treasurer (Mr W. Helliwell) declared the financial position to be absolutely sound. The only debt was the mortgage on the club's property. In moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, the president complimented the treasurer on his enthusiasm, -lie also urged the necessity of securing new members, in view of the calling up of the Second Division, which would further weaken the club's position. Mr 11. C. Ridley seconded the motion, which was carried. Office-bearers were elected as follow: President, Mr W,-Helliwell; vice-presi-dents, Messrs W. M. Joynt and F. C. Ilobbs; treasurer, Mr G. H. Cooper; secretary, Mr F. C. Bishop; directors, Messrs E. E. Daniels, A. V. B. Bishop, S. Manning, and A. J. Benzie; centre delegate, Mr E. E. Daniels; auditor, Mr \V. Bicknell. It was decided to recommend to the executive the appointment of a sole selector in place of a sports committee, Mr Alf. Dickson's name being advanced. A vote of thanks was accorded the retiriug chairman, and prizes for the past season were presented. Thereafter the meeting was carried on on social lines, the following contributing towards the programme: Messrs F. C. Bishop, -J. Morrison, F. Hobbs, C. J. Morrison, C. W. Atkinson, McGregor Wright, Dr. Whetter, H. Lightband, G. Wright, W. Helliwell, and M. Orchard. BECKHENHAM CLUB. Mr E. C. presided over a good attendance at the annual meeting of the Beckenhani Bowling Club last evening. The report recorded an increasing membership and a satisfactory financial position. Votes of thanks were passed to the retiring president and retiring members of the committee. Air T. McGallan's offer to address "colts'' on "Bowl Delivery" was thankfully accepted for September 19.

A Press Association message from Palmerston North states that Michael Roughan, who was found guilty yesterday of assault on the Rev. Mr Stockwell at Feilding in February last, was to-day sentenced at the Supreme Court to two months' imprisonment, with hard labour.

Recruiting for the 43rd draft of reinforcements has now been opened to youths of 19 and L'O years of age, and to men of Classes 8,'(.!., and 1) of the Second Division. Two thousand volunteers are required for this draft from all parts of the Dominion. The Christchurch portion of the draft, will 'ie mobilised on dune 17. Balloted men who are under orders to mobilise later than that date will be allowed to <jo into camp with the 43 r<l draft, if they so desire. For Chronic Clips!
