HOCKEY.

ASSOCIATION'S ANNUAL REPORT. The annual report to be presented to the annual general meeting of the New Zealand Hockey Association on Tuesday next states that the committee regretted being unable to record any improvement in the position of the association during the past year. The continuance of the war made it more and more difficult for affiliated associations to Carry on competitions, and it was only in very few districts that the game had been played during the season. Unfortunately, a large proportion of the affiliated associations had to be classed as temporarily defunct.

The committee had resolved to write off nil unpaid subscriptions up to the end of the season 1910, and also not to levy subscriptions for the 1917 season. A resolution had also been passed recommending the incoming committee not to levy alliliation lees for the 1918 season.

An effort was made during the year to devise a means of encouraging the game amongst the primary schools throughout Ihe Dominion, with a view to holding interprovincial competitions, and whilst no material result had yet been attained, it was hoped that further efforts in that direction would meet with success.

The balance-sheet showed that the finances of the association were still sound, and although the total receipts for the year were only £5 5/-, there was a cash credit balance of £27 1/f'-

It was hoped that all associations would make an ell'ort to inform the secretary of Hie condition of the sport in their various districts, and thereby materially assist the incoming committee to carry on the work of the association.

In conclusion, the committee desired to extend its deepest sympathy to the relatives of (he many members of clubs under the jurisdiction of affiliated associations who had lost their lives in the great war.
