Mrs W. Grant (Timaru) is in town, Mrs Eric Harper is staying with Mrs Xioughnan, Timaru. Mrs G. IT. Foster (Dunedin) is staying,at the Clarendon. Mr and Mrs George Frost will leave for Wellington this evening. The Misses Mills (2), of Port Chalmers, arc visiting Christchureh. Mr and Mrs A. Duncan (Fairlie) arc. amongst the guests at Warner's. Miss Pinckney (Christchureh) lias "been staying with Miss Cox, Timaru. Mrs Cecil "Wood (Christchureh) has gone to stay with friends at Pannevirke, after a visit to Auckland. Miss A. Hay (Christchureh), who has "been visiting Mount Cook, is now staying with Mrs P. C. Wright, Timaru. Mr and Mrs O. T. ,). Alpers are back liome again after a trip to Wellington, Marlborough Sounds, and Kaikoura. Mr and "Mrs T. P. Fisher (Dunedin), -who have been making a short stay in Christchureh, went on to llnnmer this morning. Mrs Christie and her sister, Miss HallJones (Wellington), who have been visiting Christchureh and Timaru, returned to the north a few days ago. Miss Gether, who has been secretary of the Otago Women's Club in Dunedin for three years, was recently presented •with a purse of sovereigns at a farewell party given by the club. Miss Gether is leaving shortly for South Africa. Mrs Cyril Ward has returned to Christchu'reli after a visit to Lady Ward, Wellington. The latter's sister, Mrs Henderson (Tnvercargill), who has also been staving in Wellington, returned -with Mrs" Ward, and will be her guest for a while.
The week-end sale at the Red Cross Shop, Cathedral Square, was in charge of Mesdames A. T. Chapman, DampiorCrossley, and Wanklyn, and realised £3l. The -winners of competitions were: — Camisole, Mrs Allan; boudoir cap, Mrs "W. Chapman; basket of sweets, Mrs Archer; ham, Mrs Dampier-Crossley. • The Minister of Internal Affairs has received a letter from the Women's National Reserve urging that the women of the country should be organ- 1 ised to enable men to be spared from Industries to answer the British Government's appeal for more men. The letter mentions that the Women's National Reserve has machinery ready to help the Government. Mrs William Wood presided over a meeting of members of the Women's National Reserve yesterday. In response to a rccpiest from the C.D.O. to provide tea for the soldiers on Anzac, Day, it was resolved that three members of all branches be asked to assist at the Art Gallery, where the tea will be held and musical items given. The secretary stated that the new tea room for invalid soldiers had been opened. Several soldiers had visited it, and expressed thanks for the arrangements made for their comfort. Mrs Lavie reported that the Automobile Association had offered her the use of the soldiers' car to take her on her weekly visits to the sick at the sanatorium, the offer being gratefully accepted.
