APPEALS FROM THE BALLOT. FIRST BOARD SITTING. [Special to The Sun.] BANGIOBA, March 14. The First Canterbury Appeal Board sat at Rangiora this morning. Present: Messrs J. S. Evans (chairman), J. D. Millton, and E. C. Studhohne. Captain Pilkington represented the military authorities. Graham Herbert Chapman (Mr Papprill) appealed for time until September for Fred George Chapman, chaffcuttcr hand. The appeal -was lodged three months too late, and was dismissed, but time was allowed until the June draft. The appeals of Lionel Richard Oram (Mr Papprill), sheepfarmer, Amberley, Bartholomew McGrath (Mr van Asch), farm manager, Ethelton, Thomas Gundy (Mr van Asch), farm hand, Oxford, were dismissed, but time was allowed till the June draft. The appeals of Henry Tregonning (Mr van Asch), station manager Waiau, and William Louis Orchard (Mr van Asch), farmer, Ohoka, and Ryan Bros, on behalf of William Baker, of Kaiapoi, teamster (the two latter appeals being for CI men) were dismissed. I. F. Croft appealed on behalf of Geo. Vette, teamster, Loburn, and the case was adjourned sine die on condition that Vette remained in his present employment. William Fahy (classed CI) appealed for time on account of domestic circumstances. He was allowed until the May draft, as also was Wallace MeKie, ploughman, Waiau. The appeals of Jno. Thos. Reid, fanner, Ashley Bank (classed CI), Jno. Sheeley, farm labourer, Hawarden, and Jno. Henry Jones, farmer, Scargill, were adjourned until Juno for a report. The following appellants were allowed time until the June drafts:—Edward George Heney, threshing-mill hand, Culverden; Thos Shepherd, farm labourer, Amberley; Stanley P. Atkins, farm labourer, Southbrook. Victor Graham Oldman, Waiau, fruit grower, was granted until the July draft, and the cases of Percy Smith, blacksmith, Waikari, and Jas. Whitelaw, shearer, were adjourned until the next sitting. The appeal of M. Flaherty, on behalf of Jno. Flaherty (on active service) for leave was struck out, the appeal having been withdrawn.
