Mr Henry Nelson Garland, secretary and treasurer of the Auckland Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, died on Friday last. Mr Garland was the second Bon of the late Eev. ,T. N. Garland, formerly incumbent of St. John’s Jamaica. He was born in London in 1841, and landed in Nelson in 1857, where for a time he was engaged sheep farming. He ■went to Auckland when the Thames goldfields opened in 1867, and after 10 years at Thames returned to reside in Auckland. He held several public positions, and was appointed secretary to the Auckland Hospital and Charitable Aid Board in 1885.
