COUNTY COUNCILS.
SPRINGS. The Springs County Council met on Thursday. Present —Crs I. Andrew (chairman), Alex. Thompson, W. J. McMillan, and John Stalker. The Halswcll County Council invited Springs to appoint delegates to attend a conference to discuss the question of She rough motor tralTlc on county roads. The chairman and Cr. Kime were appointed delegates. A suggestion from the Ellcsmere County Council that the two counties should between them hear half the cost of recent improvements to the Upper Sehvyn ford was agreed to. The Ellcsmere County Council having decided to open the Lccston Road ford at the Selwyn,*H was decided to have the approach on Hie Springs side put in good order. Cr McMillan reported upon an inspection of Miller's bridge, made in company with members of the Wnirewa Council. A proposal hail been made that the present structure should be replaced by two concrete walls, with a 20ft span and ironbark stringers, the present decking to be used again. There was a doubt as to whether a good foundation could be secured for ths concrete. It was decided to write to the Wairewa Council suggesting that the foundations should be tested by an independent engineer. The Canterbury Acclimatisation Society asked the council's assistance in regulating the speed at which motor-boats travelled on the Selwyn Bivcr, as the fast rate of speed was annoying to anglers.—The clerk was directed to reply that the council had no jurisdiction in the matter. The clerk was instructed to sue for outstanding rates, and to call tenders for drain-cleaning.
