Stray Splashes

Frank Collins, captain of the East Christchurch Club, who has been ill for some little time, has so far recovered as to be able to leave the hospital and is now at Hanmer.

East Christchurch Club decided the first race—so yards—of the series for the Vice-President's Cup at the Tepid Baths on Monday evening. There was a splendid entry—four heats being necessary. In all the heats the swimming was good and in most of them the times were very good also. The winner was C. Stafford, whose success was a popular one. O. Turpin and S. Hollander tied for second place. Hollander was conceding Turpin a second, and came up very fast over the last bit, making the finish close enough for the judge to give the decision stated.
