INTER-CLUB EVENTS. Two interclub rowing eventsJunior Double Sculls and > MaidenFours—were contested this afternoon, the three clubs participating. The races created a good deal of interest in rowing circles, and'there was a large attendance of club members. The races resulted: — Junior Double Sculls.—First heat: Avon (A. H. Nightingale and F. Stevenson) beat Canterbury (\V. F. Strouts and A. C. Pinwell>. Second heat: Union (A. Osborne and H: Layton) beat Avon (A. Evans aud F. Regan). Final: Union 1 Avon 2 Union were the faster to begin, and at "the bridge had half a length's, lead. This they had increased to two lengths when the Avon shed was reached, and, going on, easily won by that distance. Time, 2min 41 l-ssec. Maiden Fours.—First heat: Avon (F. Weeks, E. Hawkins, E. Yeoman, and A. Henry, str.) beat -Canterbury (R. A. Triggs, C. T. Mesle'y, A. G. Parson, and N. S. Wardell, str.). Second heat: Union (S. Hemingsen, S. Truman, T. H. Grenfell, and J. Williams; str.) boot Avon (L. Barbour, W. Scott, L. McLachlan, and C. Keys, str.). Final: Avon 1 Union 2 A good even' Start : wa« effected, and Union took' the lead,- being half- a length to the good at the bridge. Avon commenced to pull up over the stretch leading to the Avon shed, and by the time they reached, it were half a length to the gtiod. This lead they maintained till near the finish, when Union put: in a challenge; but failed to get' up, Avon winning a hard race by-a> couple;of £eet.. Time. 2min 2a 4-ssec.
