Cadorna, alter the reverse on the northern Isonzo, is retreating under difficulties, towards the Tagliamento river. From the Carnic Alps to the sea, the Italians are falling back on the Venetian plain. Should the Tagliamento not prove a safe line of defence, Cadorna may be forced to withdraw as far as Piave river, in which event the enemy will be within striking distance of historic Venice.
